Zadie Smith is one of the few authors I can say I've read all of their novels (Bret Easton Ellis is a close second but I have yet to get my hands on
Imperial Bedrooms). Not to say that I don't read much, but you know, writers just have
so many books. And Zadie's current novel list is only three books deep. Really though, I like variety. I like to jump around.
It takes a certain kind of woman to change their name -- and at 14 no less (she was born Sadie). With that said, it's no surprise that I collect baby names like someone would collect stamps or shoes or something (
See: Macaulay). Naturally then, Zadie is at the top of my list, much to the dismay of my Jewish friends (for them, zadie means grandfather).
Whatever. Zadie is the best in the best of ways.
